It’s hard to imagine. A life with no music would be like a barren tree. Like a sunset without colors. A tasteless dish.
I grew up surrounded by music. Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof were some of my favorite movies. Music was often playing in the background. My dad plays piano by ear and my mom has some training with the recorder, and of course my family sang as well. My family is full of pianists and singers.
As a teen, I participated in choirs, played chimes some, and took piano lessons. I continued singing after high school as well, discovering my own voice.
Presently, I am privileged to have a couple of musicians doing a mission year staying with my family and getting to enjoy their talents every night at worship. I also appreciate the chance to play music while I am working and let it shape my outlook on life.
Without music, my life would lose a little of its’ color and I can’t imagine who I would be. It’s shaped me in so many ways and is an absolutely essential part of my existence. I feel emotions through it, it brings me joy, and it helps me write as well. Most of all, it draws me closer to God as He sings beauty over my life to make me a new creation.
