“I’m so excited to go camping this weekend!” Susie said as she came in the door after school.
“Marshmallows and hot dogs in front of the fire!” Kellie chimed in excitedly. She might be nearly eleven and wanting to act more responsible, but she was still very much a child. There was a part of Jenny that wished she could keep her daughter like that forever.
“Can I take my train set?” Tommy asked.
“You wouldn’t want to lose it would you? I think it’s safer here at home.” Jenny replied.
“Your father will be home soon and want to load up the trailer after lunch, so you three better hurry and finish packing.”
They raced off to their rooms, and Jenny went to get the twins up from their nap. She remembered that she would need to move them into their siblings’ rooms after the camping trip, now that they were a year and a half old and especially with the new baby coming soon.
Half an hour later Karl came home and they all ate a quick lunch before loading the car and the camper. The church was having a spring campout this weekend now that the weather was warm enough.
The children were all excited to enjoy nature with their friends. Tommy, Timmy, and Lucy rode in the camper with Jenny, while Kellie and Susie hopped into the van with Karl. Kellie’s friend Vera Peters and her brother George, from next door, also rode in the van. Jenny was glad that their mother had consented to let them come, and she knew it would be a great opportunity for Kellie to let her light shine.
The trip went by quickly for Jenny with three children to keep entertained. That evening, she sat by the kindled flame, surrounded by her family and church friends. Kellie broke a chocolate bar and gave half of it to Vera as they made smores.
As Jenny looked up at the sky, she saw the moon shining silver on their little gathering, and she thought thoughts of praise to God for this special weekend. She was so blessed.
