A few hours later, Jenny was heading to the hospital with her brood. They had first eaten breakfast, gathered some toys, Susie’s kaleidoscopes, a couple of Kellie’s paintings, and one of Tommy’s treasured trains.
Of course, once that was started, the children didn’t want to stop. They wanted Christmas decorations for the hospital. So Jenny stopped by the grocery store and hobby lobby where she picked up a few wreaths and several boxes of candy canes. “They have a Christmas tree.” She reminded the excited children.
Then they had to wait another hour for visiting hours. So they went home and wrapped the toys in Christmas paper. The children even found a few more toys to give for the hospital children.
Jenny was proud of their sweetness and thoughtfulness in giving to children who they barely knew, other than their cousin Jimmy.
“Finally!” Susie exclaimed excitedly when it was time to go to the hospital.
Loaded with gifts and decorations, the little group entered the children’s ward of the hospital. Jimmy was recovering from a broken leg. It had been set and he might be able to go home in a few days. Other children were suffering from more serious ailments.
Her children didn’t care. They rushed around handing candy canes to each child, putting gifts under the tree, and hanging the wreaths over some of the beds.
“Such sweet children you have.” A nurse said, having come in and looking on in wonder next to Jenny.
Jenny couldn’t help but agree.
